No sane person would

Aesthetics aside, an outboard engine hanging from the transom of a 30 foot boat is not a reasonable alternative to an inboard. Here's a few reasons why. An outboard with enough power to push a 30 will cost as much as a diesel inboard. Its difficult and dangerous to lean over the transom to check oil, do minor service, lift, or lower the outboard engine. Besides, gasoline is explosive. Where are you going to put the tank? This question has been raised before and the response is repower with a diesel. Call Sandy Hook Yacht and ask them to help you find a new engine.

TOO SWELL

Any sort of swell will lift the motor out the water. As a fan they don't work, drop it back in and they cavitate and don't work. As a rule of thumb outboards works to 26'MAX, as the boat gets longer the pitching of the boat starts lift motor. A narrow beam boat works better than a wide boat (Like a Hunter). If you insist find the longest shaft motor (23-25") and mount it as far into the water as possible.
