How much should I pay for a Suzuki 50hp outboard with fitting, gas tank, controls? Also do you raise the mast befor launching or do you wait till the boat is in the water.Last question,Do you keep the sails wrapped around the mast while trailering or keep them inside the boat? Thanks for any help as I am about to buy a new M26 in the next month. I never sailed before. Cockneyboy

I don't kown about the Suzuki but

so you can compare, I put a 2006 Honda 50 on my 26X and with everthing, instalation, new controls, etc. it was 6000 even, a few months ago. As for the mast, I/we have only done it while on the trailer before launch, can only imagine how hard it would be in the water, but don't want to try it anytime soon. For the 26X it takes some doing to insert the pin in the CDI furler clevis. I don't think we could do ours in the water from the foredeck.

Cost of 50 hp

I paid aprox 8,000. to have a 50 hp Honda, installed, with all the controlls. Raising the mast is easier on the trailer, but not much harder on the water. We remove the boom with the sail on it and stow it below for traveling. Ibroke a spreader while trailoring last time, so now I also take off the spreaders from the mast(leave the shrouds on)and lay them in the cockpit. Every thing seems to wrap up beter this way, and it's only about an additional 5 or 10 minutes to re-rig. Enjoy, and good sailing.

Either way

the Mac is a fine starter boat, and it will not look so big after you sail it for awhile. It will look a lot bigger the first time you go to wax it! Using the baby stays in teh mast raising kit, I find it no harder to rig it in the water than on land. However, on the trailer often requires two people to unsnag stays from trailer fenders, licenceplates, etc. or a lot of getting up and down if single handed. If youi drop a tool or a bolt or clevis pin, on land you might find it. In the water, there is nothing to snag.and no retrieval of things dropped. I furl the main on the boom, wrap securely, then disconnect and take below for trailering. It rides just fine on the cushions forward or rear. I just loosen the life lines a few inches, (I have a quick release pin in them) so the spreaders ride on top without much weight on them. I raised the mast support in the pedestal about 12 inches so the rear is higher than stock.Makes it esier to get in an off the boat.
