Just an FYI for those of you with auxillary outboards. If your cooling water is not flowing, i.e. your outboard is not peeing when it should, check your discharge hose before tearing it down and installing a new water impeller.

I put in a new impeller because it was due and I had the gearcase open for other reasons, but when I fired it up there was no water discharge. Turns out the discharge hose was clogged with some sort of goo. I'm still not sure what it was. I actually had mud from mud wasps in there one year. It is easy to pop off and clean out. I used a wire and my compressor to blow it out. Now it works fine.

A WD-40 (IE) tube is great for this. It's the right diameter, plastic so won't damage the exit or hose, and because it's hollow it will penetrate the clog without compressing it.

It's almost as if it were designed for such a task. Also we've all got them in our lazarettes.

Like most of these old guys with a peeing problem, its nice to rotor-rooter them out. I have a plastic zip tie if my pee hose gets clogged. :D
