I want to add an outboard lift bracket on my '93 23.5. The Johnson 6hp I have won't tilt far enough to lock it in place and just propping it up doesn't work well. Has anyone added one? What model and how well do you like it?

Hard to imagine

My boat is the same as yours and I guess the Johnson must be so big that it can't be tilted far enough for it to lock. Consider modifying the factory supplied wooden transon perhaps with a 4 inch addition on top, lag bolted downward and sandwiched between two aluminum plates and the factory transom, or switching to a 6hp Nissan like mine that fits in the provided space. Hope this helps.

Used to work but..

It used to tilt high enough until I added the stern rails. The rails reduced the clearance a bit. The wood prop up I used occasionbally slips out and allows the motor to slam down. Ouch!

Shim it Out?

What if you put a couple peices of teak (or anything else) between the teak block and the hull along with some longer bolts?
