I have a 25 and am upgrading my motor from a 2 stroke to a four stroke. The spacer attached to the 1976 O'Day 25 stern is only 5" wide - ok for a 7.5 - 2 stroke. The new four strokes require a bracket which is approx. 8 inches wide, therefore, the spacer is to narrow to support the wider bracket. Can someone recommend or suggest how or where to obtain a wider spacer to accommodate the wider bracket.

spacer stuff

I bought a new outboard bracket from Rudy at D and R Marine last year. It is a Garelick, and it replaced what I think was the OEM bracket. The Garelick is rated for four stroke outboards, and fit on my existing spacer (which required some internal repairs itself, but that's a different story) without redrilling mounting holes, etc. I'm pretty sure the spacer and bracket on my Oday 23 are identical to the 25; 5" wide sounds right. Contact Rudy (his website is listed in the links section of this site). If you decide to replace the spacer, I remember that there was a discussion on this site a while ago on how to do it. Some people had built new fiberglass items, and I remember one guy had built a new spacer using blocks of the plastic wood substitute. Check the archives.
