Outboard Bracket Question

First, let me say, I am not an engineer. I intend to replace the outboard bracket on my O’day 23 with a newer “4-stroke” model. The specs on the replacement “2-stroke” model says it will handle up to a 20 hp, not to exceed 115 lbs; my 7.5 4 stroke weights 75 lbs. So my question is, “Even though my 7.5 is a 4 stroke, will it produce more torque than a 20 hp 2-stroke and exceed the design of the bracket?” Armchair engineers?Shine On!Don

No! Horse power does not get rated differently due to a 2 or 4

stroke engine. The 4 stroke is quieter, more fuel efficient, and environmentally cleaner, but it is heavier. The thing that could make a difference is the shaft length. A longer shaft will create more torque on the bracket (not propulsion torque), but both 2 & 4 stroke long shafts will do the same.Joe S

I dont have the torque figures but given the horsepower and weight I think you are well within the limits of your new bracket. I wouldnt give it a second thought. I was a maintenance machinest and industrial mechanic for many years. Enjoy your new motor Ray T.
