I am finding it very difficult to raise up the motor out of the water as well as lowering it into the water; it was definitely easier to do earlier in the season; I tried WD40 but it only helped a little; any other suggestions ?

Yacht Grease

I use a small amount of yacht grease on any place that has movement. Makes a big differnce. You might have a failing spring or a soon to fail unit. If looking at a replacement, check Garhauer Marine. Excellent unit. John

OB Brackets

A couple of boats ago, I had a small C&C with an outboard that weighed around 80lbs. The boat came with what I think to be the original factory mounted OB bracket and it was tired. I was tired (and my back hurt) when trying to lift the OB out of the water when sailing. I tried everything, but in the end replaced the bracket with a new Garelick bracket capable of handling an OB weighing up to 110lbs. Bingo! The new bracket would let me raise the motor with one finger. One of the best investments I ever made....
