My Hunter 28.5, '85 was purchased last March. Many maintainence problems have been solved by trial and error as no detailed owners manual came with the purchase. Two problems still stumpt me. The shower drain: it does not drain unles I detach the hose inside the drain hole. Then where does the water go and how does one unclog the hose when there is no trace of it elsewhere? The speed propellar moves freely under the boat but nothing registers on the speedodometer. I cannot find any electrical box related to it. I would appreciate any help plus info. on how to obtain a detailed layout of the boat. Thanks, Don

Shower

If it's like the 29.5, the shower drains into the bilge. I would recommend instead that you shower off the stern by using the shower set under the captain's seat. Much less fuss, no grundge in the bilge, and no slime on the bathroom walls. If the speedometer is rotating freely but not registering, the problem may be up top at the guage. As the fellow at Raytheon in Rhode Island told me, "You need to get your head examined." It's $65 for the bench fee, and they can fix it quickly. Before sending it off, check with someone else on your dock who's electrically inclined. As to the layout, anyone else with a 28.5 should be willing to fax you a set. You should have gotten a hefty manual from Hunter in the first place.

Shower Drain

On our 84 H31 the shower drains into the bildge through gray plastic lines. The problem is over time the lines start to curl up so the water has to run uphill to drain. What I did to fix this problem was clean the bildge and gule the lines down with epoxy putty, held in place with weights until the epoxy cures. Hope this helps, Bob

No hoses needed

The sump in the head drains directly into my bilge without a hose, works fine, is simple and has never caused a problem in the six years I have owned the boat....

If you have an ohm meter, measure between the sheild and the center conductor of the speed sensor cable where it plugs into the back of the speed gage. If it reads open or shorted (more than 1 megohms, or less than 100ohms, then more than likely it is the cable. It may also simply be the connection at the back of the gages.
