as boat owners started last week when we purchased a 1982 Hunter 33. I want to thank all those sailors who contribute to this form. Your participation here helped us understand the many good and bad aspects of the Hunter (Cherubini) 33. I appreciate the wealth of knowledge this form community has. This first time boat owner looks forward to sharing future experiences. After a weekend of delivering the boat to the south bay I realized the comfort this boat offers for a person 6'5" tall. With a little duck of my head I can maneuver about the cabin quite comfortably. The first mate wants to know which product works best to clean and protect the cabin sole? Best regards, Boat yet unnamed.

ENJOY ;D

We sold Liberty, a 1981 H33 last year after many years of wonderful sailing on Lake Ontario. I am sure you will enjoy your new boat as much as we did. There is a wealth of knowledge here on this web site for that very popular boat. Cheers, Ken Palmer,s/v Water Colors 1990 Hunter 33.5 Rochester, NY

Remember to duck!

Glad to hear you had a good outing on your "new" Cherubini. Just remember to keep your head down! At 6'5" you are definitely going to have to keep your hair short. We have the H37C and I cannot remember that low spot between the salon and the v-berth. And I am only 6'1". I could cover it with foam I suppose. But these boats are about sailing. Enjoy!

Cabin Sole

Welcome to the wonderfuld world of Cherubs.... We just bought a 1979 33' this spring and have been enjoying the heck out of it. Last weekend we were sailing at 7.5kts in strong winds and it was a smooth exhilerating ride for sure!! I'm loving everything on this boat right now except the flexible holding tank, gotta ditch that and get new hoses too, ugh! Search the archives here for sole refinishing or cabin sole and you will find a lot of good info. I haven't tried it yet but several people here seemed to recommend a product called Ultimate Sole (http://www.ultimatesole.com/) which will probably be on our project list next season. See the link below for a "slide show" of our boat when it still belonged to the last owner, I need to take some new pics now that it's been cleaned and shined and some updates started.

Thanks Rich, nice pics.

I always enjoy seeing how owners have changed their Cherubinis. And how different they are, even in the same model and year. On my H37C the cabin sole is not perfect but the varnish has held up. We purchased rubber-backed carpet for the sole. We cut it to fit and then had the edges bound. Being rubber it does not slide and we don't worry about having to refinish the sole. There are holes in the middle so that we can get into the bilge without taking up the carpet. You can't see it well in the picture, it is a darker blue with some white to match the fabric.

Love those cushions and the cabinet work behind you.......that solves the problem of the hideous carbet backing on the wall too!! hmmmmmmmmm, hmmmmmmmmmm gears are rolling now... LOL

2nd The vote for the Ultimate Sole

I have used it on the sole in the v berth and in the head area, haven't gotten the chance to do the main salon or the aft quarter cabin yet...Great stuff! Ed S/V MYST

Fred's pup.

You have a Wire Fred? Named Ginger? We love her dearly but it does make sailing harder. Two best days are in the photo, May 29 with a reefed headsail and June 23 at about 7.5 knots in a 16 knot breeze. I had to slow down to let my dockmate's H426 catch up to take the photo. :)

Ed, ours is soft

A Soft Coated Wheaton Terrier, that is. Same basic heart thief, (mine) but probably not as smart as Ginger. Several shots of her are on the third film strip of my web site. Hit 'next' twice. And our pup, Rooney, makes sailing nearly IMPOSSIBLE!

Thanks for the welcome.

We have yet to make a home for the boat, but plan on moving her next weekend to a marina closer to some chandleries. There will be a haul-out in the near future for bottom work; blister/delam repair, replacement of gate valves with ball valves, and bottom paint are on the agenda. We will look at refinishing the cabin sole sometime after the boat is back in the water. Happy sailing! David

a marina to consider

We ended up at Marina Village at Alameda after a couple of years elsewhere, and could not be happier with the facilities, staff, location and service. A very sailboat friendly place. Plus, there are at least two Cherubinis Hunters on the Gate 8 dock. If Alameda is anywhere near your consideration, check it out for yourself. We moved to be near the yacht club until we could get a slip there, and have pretty much decided to stay where we are. I am not on the payroll (I am retired, actually, and on no payroll at all!) but we have been very happy with everything. If you have questions, ask me at slamont@sbcglobal.net And, congratulations on your choice. And, I agree about this forum. It has really been a boon to us. Sanders s/v Good News
