We bought our 1986 272 O'day last year; it has a 28' mainsail. Do you think that makes a lot of difference -- need to decide before investing in a new sail.

the 28 mast is taller
unless the main you have now was cut down (or you reef it all the time) the 28 main sail is a bit taller.

Hi Nancy, Sorry to change the subject, but if you're in Jamestown, why not plan a trip to Milford, CT, for the 2007 owners' rOnDAYvous? It's July 13-15, and you are guaranteed to have a rippin' good time socializing with fellow O'day owners. We did the measuring/or had a sail loft do it and they say too tall and foot too short -- too much bag in sail... is that the main reason boat doesn't point well? Thanks for responding

w/o being able to hoist it fully, it is really baggy. Great for reaching but not good for close hauled. Which sail loft are you going to use for a new main?? Mike C. We'll have close to 30 O'Days there with many more driving in from all over.

Difference between O'day 27 and 272
You'll get a better answer from an owner, I'm sure, but I think they are completely different boats. The 27 was designed by Alan Gurney and the 272 by C. Raymond Hunt Associates. The 27 has lowish freeboard with a tall cabintop, a fin keel and spade rudder. The 272 sports a more modern look, a shoal-draft wing keel and a transom hung rudder.

Transom angle 272
Off current topic but hoping any one of you owners can answer this. I just installed a new motor and bracket only to find that I need to make a transom wedge. I live in Memphis but sail out of Pensacola. I forgot to measure the transom angle before I left for home. I would like to make it at home and take it on my next trip down there. Any help would really be appreciated. I'm guessing 12 degrees but could be way off the mark. If you don't have the correct equipment just the distance out on a 9 inch wedge to make it vertical would suffice. Thanks in advance Stephen
