Osmosis blisters around the keel

Hi folks,

I am looking at an early Vega built in 1970.

The owner tells me that he has an osmosis problem around the keel with
blisters that show all the usual signs. They leak vinegar smelling
liquid when burst.

The hull needs repaiting and the bottom cleaning. I was thinking about
peeling the gel off and starting again, but would rather try and save
the money for other things and get her on the water faster.

All ideas welcome.

Thanks

Andy

Osmosis is the equivalent of cancer (for a person), it would not kill you strait away but the longer you leave it the harder it will become to cure; thankfully your boat is not a life, so you can let it decay if is more cost effective.

I think the cancer comparisson's a bit harsh.

A dozen or so small keel blisters is no more than an irritation and IMHO a DIY repair will be more than adequate as both a short and long term solution.

It's my undestanding that there's never been a 'serious' case of osmosis in a Vega hull?
