Hunter 40.5 legend UK
I have loved the style and build quality of the Hunters for a while and thought they were out of my price bracket until recently when I found a 1994 Hunter 40.5 Legend, the owner has agreed to sell me the yacht as he is now in ill health and knows that I will refurbish it to a good standard.
The yacht has been out of the water for some time and I wondered if any Hunter owners have had any problems with Osmosis??

Hunter as well as other manufacturers improved their formulation sometime in the early-mid 90's and as a consequence, osmosis is less of a problem than it used to be. wWth that said, most boats that did not get a quality barrier coat when new(ish) will develop blisters; especially in warmer fresh water. I would talk with the owner to find out what his experience has been and whether he had a barrier coat applied. If the boat has been on the hard for an extended period of time, any blisters he had may very well have dried and not be visible. If you are concerned, have a surveyor thoroughly inspect the boat; including the hull. That way, you'll have a better idea of its condition before you buy.

I think if you looked in the owner review section here, either specifically for the 40.5 or any Hunter for that matter, you would find it is not a problem. For what it's worth, my 40.5 which is the same vintage and has never been barrier coated has never had a blister issue.

Same here, I've read that because of Hunter's build methods, they do not have blister or osmosis problems. Mine is an 85 and shows absolutely no signs.
