Hi All
Hope someone out there can help me. I need some measurements from an
original Volvo engine installation on a Mk II Vega.
1. The distance between the engine mounting block vertical threaded
location studs, (i.e.the distance between the fore and aft studs),
both Port and S'board. - These are the threaded studs that allow the
engine to be aligned to the propshaft.
2. The distance between the bolt retaining holes for one of the
original engine mounting blocks.
My Yanmar replacement engine was fitted using original Yanmar YD-4096
engine mounting blocks (long before I bought the boat) that are just
too long for the original Vega engine bed. As a consequence I
discovered one end of the Port and S'board engine mounting blocks had
been 'bolted' into fibreglass and missed the embeded metal entirely!
The rubber compound in these two aft engine mounting blocks has now
deteriorated due to the resultant excessive vibration so that the
propshaft touches the propshaft tube when the engine idles - the noise
will soon waken Davey Jones himself.
I need to replace the engine mounts with something shorter (Vetus
mounts)that will bolt into the metal strip embedded in the fibreglass
engine bed, and hope that I can use the original Volvo mounting holes
for this. Otherwise it is an "engine out" job with new holes as well
as new mounting blocks - all of which becomes very expensive in this
part of the World.
Cheers
