I bought an older Catalina 1981 and I think the fresh water holding tank has been added to or something done different and my water keeps siphoning out. does anyone have a diagram of how this was originally configured?
Thanks
Rick

You didn't mention if the pressure pump runs occasionally even if faucets are off or whether the water leaks out without the pump running. I am assuming the water ends up in the bilge.

I used to own a 1985 Catalina 38 #297. The fresh water system on the 38s is dead simple. The freshwater tank is located under the v-berth, 35 gallon capacity if I remember correctly. There should be an outlet in the tank at the bottom aft end of the tank. A hose runs from there to the pressure pump. The output from the pressure pump is routed via hoses to the fixtures at the galley and head sinks and to the input side of the hot water heater. Hoses also run from the output of the hot water heater to the galley and head fixtures.

If the water is leaking out and the pressure pump does not run, look for a leak anywhere from the hose barb on the tank and along the hose running to the pressure pump.

If the fresh water pressure pump runs occasionally then look for leaks in the hoses and fittings down stream from the pressure pump. The leak or leaks could be any where on the cold water side or hot water side.

As a Cat-38 owner, one of your best moves will be to join the Catalina 38 International Organization: http://www.catalina38.org/
There is a wealth of knowledge about our boats among the members and membership gives you access to a large number of technical drawings and advice.
As Phantom.. said check all the fittings, especially in the hot water circuit. If there are nylon connectors, they can soften and deform and then leak under static pressure when they cool off.
The original freshwater tank is a Ronco tank. The model# is molded right on top. As I recall it is either #112 or #126 ... don't hold me to either.

Welcome to the wonderful world of the Cat 38.
