I'll look later today and see if I can guess. As I recall it looks
sorta-like fiberglass. When you said " Should I be scared? " you got my
attention!!

I have one and it is a fine glass of some sort. I wouldn't be scared unless
you get really hungry and try to eat it. Alcohol is probably one of the
least dangerous fuels, but it doesn't heat as fast (it won't explode and
the fire can be put out with water -- well I guess it could be exploded,
but you'd have really try). Other cooking fuels are far more dangerous.

The first time I used the Origo I fueled it with the cylinders laying
horizontally. Fuel was everywhere but I didn't notice. I was almost to
the point of throwing the stove into the water when I got the flames out.
It was a little too much excitement. So,,, I agree: the Origo is safe *when
used correctly*!

It might be just plain wool. Wool doesn't burn easily. I found this out when buying oriental rugs, you can pull some fibers of a rug and try to light them. If they burn easily, the rug in not wool
(probably some synthetic). tg

It is (some kind of) wool :" Simply pour denatured alcohol into Origo's
stainless-steel canister where fuel is absorbed and bound in a
non-flammable wool material "
I suppose if you are really worried about it, you could dry it out then put water on it to see if it smells like a wet sheep or wet fiberglass wool. tg
