Original(?) gas heater, Vega 1005

Hello,
I've been going through my "new" Vega for a few weeks now, fixing things where they could be easily fixed, for example replacing the badly corroded electric center under the hatch, and noting in my little red book what other stuff I need to get for later repairs.

My vega still has the original(?) gas heater, which hasn't been used for years. Has anyone had any experience with these? As a new heater is quite expensive, I'd like to find out if the old one is still usable. I guess I should try and find some shop that can check it out and give it thumbs up/down.

Any ideas?

If its a blown hot air heater, It'll be a Volvo Rematron 1.8kw unit.

They are no longer made and parts don't really exist anymore.

The workings are really simple and you can find parts that will do the job.

Just remember its gas and if it leaks they can be dangerous!!

Replying to myself, mainly to keep the topic alive with what\'s happening with the heater :)

The heater might be the original Lidén Junior -heater that was offered as an extra on the Vega. I\'ll go to the boat today and see
if I can get it out. I\'m planning on taking it to a shop nearby that said that they can test it and see if they can get it going.

Ofcourse, security first.

btw. Anyone used the Origo Heatpal on their Vega?

Used the Origo HeatPal on other boats, works quite well. Only issue is that being a freestanding unit it's not really suitable for use underway, but it keeps things nicely warm and dry on the hook.

Hi,
Yup, that's what my problem with it is. Since I'll be often cruising with two cats, I don't think the heatpal would be a good idea. Cats have a tendency to tip things over.

Hey,
Still speaking to myself: I got the heater checked out and atleast the connectors are good, keeping pressure when closed. I guess I'll do a test burn with gas, test that the flame watch (turns off the gas when the flame goes out) works etc.
