Any advice for removing the DMI instruments?
Are they worth sending to DMI for repair or should I go with an alternate?

Knot meter gives no reading. I replaced the thru-hull/paddle wheels about 5 years ago.

Depth meter gives a wide range of readings. None too accurate.

Thanks

I would take 'em apart during the winter. You might find some corrosion or loose wire that you may be able to clean up or solder. I had some issues with mine and now they are good to go.

They are pretty easy to dissect and put back together. It's worth a shot.

It IS worthwhile to send them back. I had my 1986 depthsounder repaired many years ago (have had this boat for 15 years) and it's still working just fine.

datamarine is long out of business I believe. www.dmimarine.com is the site of a company that still repairs many datamarine instruments. I've heard nothing but good about them. Both the other suggestions are good. Try to trace wires to check for bad connections, chaffing, loose plugs. I had a wide range of readings on the depth part of my Dart System that would sent the display to a line of dashes and then read 300+ ft, at my dock but it came down to the tranducer. I bought a new 200khz transducer, hung it over the side and BINGO it worked. Whoever installed the original epoxied it in place so I'm not sure if I willl be able to get it out, might have to just install the new one.

I just sent my remote Datamarine L ink 500 back to the refurbish site. There were very helpful in emails and brainstorming the possible problems. I read where one of you had to get a new 200 hz transducer. Is this the right frequency for the Link 5000? I may need this based on their analysis.

I had to get a new 200 khz transducer for my Datamarine Dart system. The owners manual told me any 200 khz with RCA end. I would not make the same assumption for a Link 5000 without checking the manual.
