ive fished out of there quite a bit... its no worse than any other bar. just watch the weather.
the bay is nice and river can be sailed too, and at times the wind really blows up the river which is pretty broad for quite a ways up. there is a lot of chance for exploring on both the umpqua and the smith river, under sail or power....
as winchester bay is not a "hub" city with no major road intersections or industry, its a very small community and there arent too many boats kept there, and so the costs are probably much less.
it does not have a fishing fleet although a few commercial boats are kept there, and the community's only existence is because it has a bay that can be navigated to the open ocean which attracts sports-fishermen, and because of this, it has a coast guard station....
its a busy area during fishing season and very open at all other times... lots of dock space.
