How much fuel is needed to fill a new Orego stove canister. Used a quart already, nothing even close to full mark. Yes , I know about tipping to read full.

the full mark is the canister tipped on its side.... it should NOT run out of the filler/burn hole.... if it does, its overfilled and should be adjusted for safety reasons.
but unless you are doing a LOT of cooking, a cup of fuel will last a few weeks if you only cook on the weekends.... its very efficient on fuel.

I fill mine right up because I cook with it every day. The easy way to fill is use those 1/2 pint plastic cups you'll find next to the epoxy and fiberglass. Punch just a few small holes in the bottom, about four 1/4 inch knife slits is about right, and set on the canisters.
I fill the cups 4 to 5 times when the canisters are nearly empty so 28 - 35 oz. Don't fill beyond where you just see fuel in the side indentation when the canister is tipped nearly perpendicular as mentioned above.

Thanks all. I asked questions a few months ago when I first got the boat. At that time someone suggested punching a hole in a can and placing it over the burner similar to your method Roger. I did this to fill but was concerned I would have an overflow flood when I tipped it up, I did all of this in a big tub on the concrete floor. I`m gonna stop now at 32 OZ in one, leave the other one dry till we actually start using it. Roger, I`ve been following your travels up and down the coast, love your writing, thanks for the reply. Great stoves, we had a "curtain burner" on our C25 and dumped it for the Origo within the first hour of taking possession of the boat!

Start checking by tipping at about 4 cups (28 oz) if it's bone dry.
NEVER fill when the canisters are in the stove.
We take the canisters out to the cockpit to fill. Use a funnel and tip the can properly to prevent "gulping" out amounts of fuel. We like this stove, and we never put much fuel in due to evaporation since we don't use it often.

I cleaned out a dish soap bottle and use it to store stove alc on the boat. Easy to use and very controllable.
I am curious.. that document is for the 2X00 and 4X00 series stoves and states a one quart (32oz) maximum per canister. The manual for the 1500, 3000 and 6X00 series states 1.2L (approx. 40oz) maximum per canister. Do they use different sized canisters? I thought they were all the same size.

My Origo 1500/3000 instructions say the canister holds approx. 2.5 pints, 1.2 litre. I pour some fuel from the gallon can into a small drink bottle. I have a soda bottle with the pop-top like you see on sports drinks bottles or, what I use, from a dish liquid bottle. A small part of the mesh screen is pushed in, so I stand the canister up on edge with that screen recess on the bottom. Using the squirt top, squeeze the fuel in until it fills up to the rim of the opening. Laid flat, it works great.
