Ordered my new main sail yesterday from FX sails. It will be a full top batten with 3 partial battens, one deep reef, loose footed and the h23 insignia printed on it. Now I just half to wait 4-5 weeks. This will be difficult as I have waited two years trying to decide what sail and manufacturer to purchase from.

Congratulations on your order! Looking forward to seeing pictures. I enjoyed working with Bill at FX Sails when I ordered my spinnaker.

I am order a new mainsail for my hunter 23. I was wondering if you could share, what size slugs are on the luff?

I am looking at ordering a new mainsail for my hunter 23. I am trying to figure out the slug size on the luff. Can you share your specs on the slugs? Thanks.

What made you decide to get a new main? I'm trying to make that decision right now, the only thing holding me back is the price tag. My main still grabs wind, it's just that it's probably 20 yrs old!

My main is original do the boat and severely stretched out. While down wind performance was ok, heading up wind I was not able to get a good sail shape or point very high.

Gorg027, I was faced with the same decision several years ago for my H-26. I carried my original 1994 mainsail to my local sail-maker to have him replace some web-sewn slugs. Before I spent any money on it, I asked him to inspect the sail condition. He spread the sail out and carefully inspected it. He told me my boltrope was shrunken and would affect my sail shape. He cut some stitches, stretched the boltrope, and told me it still had 65% life remaining on the sail, and it had a very good shape. I think he charged me only for the replacement of the sail slugs. All told, it was under $50. The bottom line, I think a TRUSTED sail-maker could tell you if you need a new sail. BrianW
