Sad news in this morning's paper: The boat was being prepped to move to Bermuda for the Americas' Cup Race in 2017. Marshals have been authorized to seize Team Oracle's boat pending a lawsuit by a former crew member over contract differences. A difference in interpretation, that is. He is claiming he is on a "visa-required" fixed-term contract, but Oracle says it's open-ended. A note is that maybe ol' Joe can't get by on his $25,ooo a month, so had asked for a raise to $38,000. I guess the price of shoes has gone up?

Tell you the truth I could care less. I was ( and still am ) Dennis Connors biggest fan. It was great when they raced monohulls and developed improvements that trickled down to all of us. Was a time I couldn't wait for the next series.
Today they sail boats only a handful of people can afford or identify with. How many of us can afford to have their rigid main raised ( like any of us will ever have one ) for a day sail or club race? And then there's the politics!
So, I for one could care less. I know I'll be accused of missing the point and I hope I haven't stepped on too many toes.

To be fair, foiling technology is beginning to trickle down into performance boats, and there was no shortage of politics and controversy off the race course 30 years ago either. I agree with you that I related better to monohull racing and preferred it, but the modern cup races aren't necessarily any worse in their own way.
