As part of Opsail 2000, the tall ship Rose is currently enroute from Puerto Rico to Miami, with a group of Miami-area youngsters aboard. Daily articles of this voyage appear in the Miami Herald, and on their website at http://www.miamiherald.com. Just click on the icon for previous Rose articles to browse the entire list of dispatches. With just a little admitted nepotism, these articles are being written by my cousin, Curtis Morgan, who seems to have gotten the entire literary gene quoto for the family. Reading these stories, it's clear that sailing hasn't changed all that much since the days when the tall ships ruled the sea. There's even been a small touch of mutiny aboard. Also, all of the tall ships will be in New York City for a July 4th procession. The ships all anchor in lower NY harbor (south of the Verrazano Bridge) for a day or two before the procession. Anyone with a boat can sail at their leisure through the anchored fleet as close as your seamanship allows. We did this for the last Opsail, and it was spectacularly better than watching the procession itself, which had to be done from a real distance in the Hudson River. Robert Pancza
