I need an opinion on a very nice Cal 9.2. Its a 1982 asking price is 24K. Has fair sail inventory, the interior is well kept, Atomic Diesel that looks good, standing rigging seems ok lines look ok, has not much in eletronics, Loran C , VHF. Bottom ok. I'm not real familiar with Cal's , I have a friend who is in the market. I like the sturdiness of the stays, but I'm not real thrilled about the way the shrouds are anchored beacuse I can only see how they are attached to the deck. Do they tie into a bulkhead or just on the deck with a backer plate system ? My original op[inion is that this was too pricey, I suggested he make an offer since it is 23 years old. But... OPINION PLEASE. Thank you reply to WA8OLD@ARRL.net

The Cal 9.2's are fun

I have an '82 Cal 9.2 on SF Bay. Very fun and quick. This particular boat was desinged by Ron Holland and originally built as the Jeanneau Rush 31. Cal bought a license to build the boats as "Cal 9.2". The Jenneau's have a little nicer interior appointments. The early rig sidestays went to deck with minimal support - were redesigned after problems (hull #6, Freewind - raced heavily) pulled the stays out of deck. I am pretty sure you have to pull the headliner to see if the deckstays are tied to the hull. Visit the ftp:// ftp sailjazz com / Cal / site for add'l info on Cal's,especially Cal 9.2. The price seems to be what the GLakes and Eastern boats are asking - don't know what people are really paying. good luck - TomT
