The club I belong to had a Carolina Skiff stolen a week or two ago.

I just found out that it was found tied up in a slip in a marina about 20 miles down the Hudson from us.

Guess what -- the owner of the marina wants $800 "storage fee".

That is life in NY for you.

Our club has 2 mooring for transit sailors to use --- FREE of charge.

The phrase "adding insult to injury" comes to mind; OTOH, maybe it's NY's newest employment opportunity, relocating boats to expensive storage sites.
I'm not bragging but I bet MA isn't far behind.

Hmm, sounds like one of those tow truck scams. Perhaps someone should involve the police. Maybe there have been other boats moved to "storage" at this marina?

If he's going to charge a storage fee, maybe he can arrested for recieveing stolen goods?

Here is the latest --unofficial information I have received.

When a sheriff came to investigate the "person in charge" gave the sheriff the incorrect registration # on the boat. We have 2 ( possibly 3) of these boats. So the boat that was reported stolen -- was not.

So when the marina owner called police that he had an unknown boat in his marina, the boat did not show up as stolen. (Duh, you would think that the police could have run a background check on this unknown boat and seen that it belonged to the place that reported a similar boat stolen).

I do not know what happened after that. But we ended up paying $400 to get the boat back.

Not very Corinthian I would say.
