Phil

Have any of you dealt with WM online store customer support? I have worked in various capacities around computers to know problems can be quirky, but I seem to on the wrong end of a massive run-around campaign. If one more person tells me to check if I'm spelling my name correctly I am going to reach through the line and ... I get the impression that they could care less if they get my business or not.

Phil, I work part time for WM, and this is the first I've heard about ANY problems with the onine support.I ordered extensively on line before I went to work for them. and never had a problem. Can you be a little more specific as to what the problem is? Larry Wilson

I Haven't Had Any Problems With Them

I've used WM on-line services quite a bit. With the closest WM being over 1.5 hours away I really have no other choice. Guess I'll keep my fingers crossed in the future. Good Luck!

Waste Marine

It seems as though Waste Marine is going through a lot of changes, mostly to their benefit, not the customers. I'm finding out that I can buy through my local marina and get just as good of a price for almost any item that I need. WM won't even price match any more. Their members card doesn't even cover the discount that I can get from purchasing from Defender or other online suppliers. When Boat US sold out to them, it was the best move they probably ever made. WM thought that they would have a monopoly on retail boat products, but it's eventually going to bite them in the butt if they don't compete with everyone else. 99% of the time I can buy a product from Defender and even with shipping it's still cheaper. Sorry about the rant but I had to let it out.

Good to my wife & I

My wife bought me a GPS for Xmas. She know nothing about them, I had no knowledge she was buying this way. Good price. Arrived in time. Even came via postal services so the freight & brokerage was cheaper. Phil, you should answer Larry's question. What was your beef?

Unbelievable

I tried emailing their support and guess what they suggested. You guessed it! They cut and pasted the suggestions from their login help page, be sure you spell it right, it's case sensitive, make sure cache is cleared, cookies on, etc, blah, blah, blah... It stated clearly in my email that my password works and that I could log on. The problem is that once I log on the shopping cart doesn't work and my account info isn't actually there. I know the account exists because the id/password lets me in and my info has been there in the past. WM may be a wonderful online store when it's working correctly. But I give their support to date the lowest possible rating. Maybe that should be next to lowest; they are always very courteous in suggesting I check the spelling of my id and password. They have been very friendly over the past four months in saying they will work on it and get back to me.

Phil - I heard from them, the system is down

Phil, That's very odd - I reported an issue with login yesterday and they acknowledged that they were having issues and trying to fix it. I emailed the customer care, not tech support folks. Working for a software company myself, it amazes me that they would not put a note up instead of pretending it's okay. You're not alone Phil, if that helps! Dave s/v Wind Dreamer II

Use them for all their worth

The most cost effective way to deal with West Marine is to go into the store with Defenders' price on an item and let West match the price. You will save the shipping cost required by Defender and walk home with the product.

Not any more Randy

Randy, As of 12/1/06 WM will not match any 'internet' advertised price, including Defender. They only match local bricks and morter prices. Unless they got wise and changed that recently... Dave s/v Wind Dreamer II
