One Off Holding Tanks

I find it difficult to find a plastic tank to fit my aft head, tried Ronco and no luck and they have the biggest selection I can find...so! An article by a fella that built a fiberglass one off tank got me thinking that epoxy would be less permeable. Problems I see are smoothness of the interior and odor problem. Because epoxy is permeable, will smell come through over time? Is it better to make a plug or glass the inside of the tank and put a top on it? After that, does anyone know a company that will build custom tanks for a reasonable price; like $300 to $500 range?

Custom welded plastic is your best choice...

Both these companies make excellent quality tanks within the price range you specified: http://www.seafabtanks.com/ http://www.triplemplastics.net/

Custom welded plastic tanks

Peggy, you are the "goddess" I often print your responses and links to save for future use. The second link that you listed did not work for me? bill

Thanks you,

I appreciate the links, I've got a call into Sea Fab; the second link didn't work. I am still interested in your opinion on a epoxy/glass tank.

They seem to be constructing a new website

I googled Triple M Plastics and came up with this one for 'em: http://www.triplemplastics.com/index.htm Not much info on the site yet, but it is the same company at the same address, and they do have phone, fax and email contact info on their homepage. As for my opinion of epoxy glass...it's ok, but a lot heavier than equal strength plastic...and not a lot cheaper if your time is worth anything. Remember too that anything that can happen to a boat hull--blisters, rot--can also happen to the inside of a tank...but because it's on the inside of a tank, never becomes apparent till it's become a very serious problem (when the tank is full, of course). The #1 recommended material for waste holding is thickwalled rotomolded PE...second choice is high quality welded 3/8" minimum PE or PP. But if you want to build your own epoxy glass tank instead, it's not the worst choice you could make...but well down the list of preferred material/construction.
