Has anyone had the experience of removing PoliGlow? I applied one coat of Poliglow on the bottom this spring. Since I must remove the Poli Glow before applying the Interlux, I plan to use Poli Prep this winter to remove the Poli Glow. Has anyone ever removed Poli Glow like this or any other way? How much trouble was it? Thanks, Chuck

Since you're gonna paint

why not give it a light sanding? That'll get it off! I think sanding would be a good idea anyway, for good adhesion. Forget about spending money on the Poly Prep.

A few "hard learn" experiences

Sanding will tightly bond Polyglow, mold release, old wax (anything on the surface) quite tightly into the fibreglass. After sanding, you need to use the appropriate solvent to wash it away. Wiping will not do it - and liquids that are not solvents to ALL materials you sanded will not do it either. You also need to use lots of rags/paper towels as you simply spread it around after about 5 seconds of wiping. This is hard experience from people who do this for a living. Second tip is that if you are going to use a product like Interprotect, use the recommended solvent to remove the sanded in crud and prepare the surface. Don't substitute with acetone etc if a specific product is recommended. Many times, the solvent is a blend that drastically affects adhesion. This is not where you want to save $5 by taking a chance that the giver of "free advice" actually knows the chemical composition of what he's talking about. Why take the chance? It's all in the prep and using the recommended products exactly as the manufacturer recommends - that's the difference between permanent and having to do it again... Chris

Removal

Talked with the PoliGlow technican this morning. He gave me their procedure to remove PoliGlow using PoliPrep, Zet from Home Depot, and a new gel ,PoliStrip, comming out next month. Using PoliStrip will make it somewhat easier as it is a gel and stays on the surface. I am going to call Interlux and get their proceedure for appling Micron CSC.

Application of Interlux Antifouling Paint

From the Technician of Interlux. They said that After the PoliGlow was completely removed to go over bottom with Fiberglas Surface Prep YMA601 scrubbing well. Than apply one coat of Fiberglass No Sand Primer. When it is Thumb Tacky, apply 2 coats of Micron CSC antifouling paint Chuck
