OK, so I've babbled on about how I maintain my Jabsco heads. Well, Peggy maintains just lube 'em and replace 'em. Here are even more reasons to Obey Peggy. I have two Jabsco manual heads. Three-years ago, I replaced the pumps with new ones that are second (current) generation. One pump cover began leaking recently, about four months after it was disassembled for lubrication. The screw studs on the pump housing all cracked at the base. My first thought was that I had somehow over-torqued the screws. However, I know better after many years. This is my first experience, however, with the second-generation pumps. What is interesting is the fracturing around each base that appears to be flex-fatigue related. Moral: replace the whole head, or the pump assembly (almost a wash in dollars). The second thing is that the same head that had the pump go out also had a base crack.
