Where do most store the dinghy motor gas? I have a 2 gallon plastic gas can that fits well in the stern locker [next to the propane, hmmm} but that doesn't seem like such a good place. thanks, Jack

hope we hear from you if you get back.

Store fuel in cans above deck not in compartments. hope you get this before its too late! Gas fumes are bad! expecially when your cooking with a flame! Good luck

DINGHY MOTOR GAS

THE NEWER HUNTERS HAVE WALK THRU STERNS SO I STORE MY TANK UNDER SEAT ON THE WALK THRU STERN.

Like propane, gasoline vapors are heavier

than air. Your stern locker should be vented to the outside of the hull and airtight to the inside of the boat. Nothing but fuel should be in the propane locker. I think that the gas can is alright but don't be smoking when you open the locker cause you might be smoking afterwards.

Dinghy Gas Can

I store mine either under the helm seat (walk through transom), or in the anchor locker (vented to the outside, not inside). The others are correct, gas FUMES are heavier than air, and will fill up the bilge to await a spark. Then KABOOOM!

gas can storage

The forward anchor locker has been my storage area for years. Any leaks go overboard thru the drain hole. No heat sources, no intrusions into the interior.
