Okay, I just re painted the bottom, then I painted a trim stripe near the deck (from the toerail down about 6", what's that called anyways??) now I want to restore the gelcoat. I planned to use Poly glow... is it okay to get it on the new paint? Or should I mask it off? The boat is a 78 with fairly chalky gelcoat. Thanks

don't tape it, cover it.
i have a 77 hunter 30 when i applied poly glow i covered the new stripe i painted and the new boat name i had just installed. it took along time to clean all the old chalky gelcoat i used all the cleaner provided and then started to use 600 grit sand paper, and a red scotch bright pad the guy next to me on the hard thought i had destroyed my boat, once i finished the last coat of poly glow he was so inpressed that he put it on his boat. it helps to spray (mist) the sides that you are about to smear poly glow on. since it is a water based coating this doesnt hurt anything. good luck.

When I owned my 1981 H33, I applied Poly Glow over lettering and stripes. Now that I have a 1990 H33.5 with a new name going on very soon, I just assumed that I would Poly Glow over the lettering. I don't see what harm would be done by doing that. Of course I have Poly Prepped the hull with all of the old lettering off to give it a proper base.

I plan to use Poly-Glow. If I remove the lettering on my hull first, will the cleaner help reduce the letter outlines or do I need to do something different?
