I have a triple pole main circuit breaker for my S2. It is an Airpax Part No: UPG666-4094-1. I know it is designed to simultaneously break both hot and neutral legs on a 120VAC system and both live and neutral legs on a 220VAC system. Only 2 of the 3 poles work. Is this because it is designed to only work with 120VAC and only needs to simultaneously break both hot and neutral legs? Or am I missing something? Does the third pole have something to do with reverse polarity? Any suggestions or help is welcome.

Here's manufacturing literature for that series. I don't see where the third pole wouldn't be interlocked with the handle. I assume all three are common-trip, but I haven't read all of it carefully. But it sure seems that they're all operated simultaneously by the single handle, so it would seem that yours is broken.

2 two of the poles bridge the current and common wire feeds and the third pole acts as a latching device that if you have a reverse polarity problem will not let the breaker stay engaged till the problem is corrected......

When I check it with my ohm meter, 2 of the poles allow current through and the 3rd does not. Should all 3 allow current through?

no ...as i under stand it the third pole acts like a latching device and keeps the other two form staying connected until you correct the reverse polarity problem...the third pole dose not carry or bridge power.....if i am incorrect maybe Maine Sail will correct this info for you

when i first came on this fourm is was messing with the main breaker checking out the good and bads ones and found the ground wire connected to the third leg on the breaker and in my infinet wisdom posted the comment that my ground was also breakered by the main breaker witch it is not by the way only hooked up to one side and i got a lot of input from folks on here that that should never happen lol and after getting the diagrham i can now see why the ground is never broken for any reason as it is your safety

Starting to understand. So on the diagram, the third leg is labled "To Safety Ground". What is "Safety Ground" and where does it come from? I am guessing it is different than the neg ground of the boat? Also, I assume it has nothing to do with the green grounding wire running from the bow or the stern connect to the vessel's metal strip on the hull.

you have 3 wires coming from your shore power one is black (120 v ac) the second is white (common) and one is green or yellow (ground/safty ground)...

Yellow ground is ONLY for 12V DC. Green ground is always for 120V AC.

Don't confuse the two.

the line side of the breaker is the shore power side of the breaker .....the load side of the breaker is the boat side of the breaker feeding your 120v ac systems......
