OMC Zephyr Saildrive problem-"BROKEN ARROW"

Having problems with 1978 OMC Zephyr Saildrive in 1984 7.3. Replaced fuel pump, fuel line, fuel filter and fuel. Rebuilt carb and have new sparkplugs and wires. Motor turns over and there is spark. Can not catch engine and get it to run.

Was suggested to say" BROKEN ARROW" by saildriveowners member.

Fuel?

It should be obvious whether or not you are getting fuel to the plug. Are you? If not, you still have a fuel problem. Have you checked the gap on the plug and made sure it is the correct plug?

Thanks for the suggestion. Will check the plug #s and gap. Will also check to see if plug is wet from fuel. Want to know after reading about potential problems, if the "running hot alarm" shuts the engine down and if that has to be reset or can be eliminated? Could this be the cause of my problem?

Fuel Pump

I know this sounds stupid...but since the power head is basically an outboard and you have done a lot of work on it recently I'd go back to basics. Make sure the fuel tank vent is open/not blocked. If there is a primer bulb be sure you use it to prime the new fuel pump. If not, I suggest you bypass the tank and run a short piece of fuel line to a funnel. That is how I used to run my outboard for brief periods in my driveway. That will at least provide fuel directly to the pump (assuming it is on the powerhead and not remote). You may just have a priming problem.
