I own a 1983 Hunter 27. As most boats of its era it has a very small mainsail and a large headsail. The Genoa is a 150%. I also frequently sail on a 2000 H320 with a small working jib and a large roach mainsail. How would the sail trim compare on this two boats in winds of 10-15 knots? The major difference I have experienced is that the H320 will track considerably closest to the wind with less heel and weather helm.

Benny: The basic trim principles for the main and jib are the same no matter what your sailing. You could stick a sail and mast on a 55 gallon drum and you'd trim it the same way you would a conventional sail boat. In very simple terms, which I have to use so I don't confuse myself, the jib is pushing the bow off and the mainsial is pushing the bow up. The big mainsail, which act like a barn door, is pushing the bow up and your 155 is pushing the bow off. One of the reasons America Cup boat are fractional rigs is because they can point them higher than a mast head rig. If the opposite were true, America Cup boats would be mast head rigs.
