I own a 1985 Catalina 30 and have an older style CDI,Inc system continuous racing reefer (RII 4/6/7). I need to lower the headsail for cleaning and some light repair but am not sure how to go about it. The sail is not held up with a halyard. If any one has experience with this system I would appreciate an explantion of how to lower the sail, or info on where I can get the relevant instructions. The system still works great. Thanks, Phil Smith

Some Possible Help

Hello Phil, I have a 1983 C30 with a CDI Roller Reefing System. I am not sure if it is the same as yours, but mine has a channel for a messanger line that allows you to take the sail, up and down. The excess line wraps around the channel molded into the top of the drum, above the furling line area. I am including the phone number and web sit link to CDI. I have called the folks there a few times in the past and they are very helpful. Look under the link on their web page for the spare parts guide, you will probably find the manual for your system. BE CAREFUL not to loose or break any of your system, CDI has stopped making many of the spare parts for these older models. If you model has the alum. extrusions, be very careful if you take them apart. They are held together by some small alum. extrusions which are very easily broken and or dropped into the water. On my system these extrusions are only held into the large extrusions using gravity and friction. These parts are no longer sold by CDI, I know this because my rigger dropped two of these into the water(gone forever), and broke one. Luckily he found a couple used ones at a local rigging shop..... Here is the information for CDI, hope this helps. CDI Inc. PO Box 1250 Concord, MA 01742 Phone: 978-371-5508 Fax: 978-371-5597 Take care and best of luck, Jack

Jack, thanks for your response. From your description it sounds like our models are the same. I will tread lightly when looking for the messenger line! Thanks so much, Fair winds, Phil
