do any of you guys know if one usually has to change the speed sensor to get a new gauge. my sensor is a little star wheel mounted forward of the keel. the gauge that went with it is an old analog gauge. i would like to replace it with a moore electronics analog gauge. i know that is a pretty general question.

If I had a speed sensor on my boat, I'd want to place it where I could get at it easily to clean it, like on the stern, mounted on a car on a track. This way, I could get it out of the water when I left my boat on the mooring to keep the marine growth off it. Wayne has his mounted on his rudder. It's an oldie but goody speed sensor. I'm sure they're making them smaller now, but his works just fine. He only needs to clean the track once in a while. So what I'm saying is, wouldn't you be better off buying a new sensor and mounting it in a more accessible place, or no? Here's some pics of Wayne's speed sensor that I took compliments of my friend Wayne, and also a picture of Wayne on his Seaward 22. I cut his head off in the picture but that's OK, he really didn't need that head anyway.
