A friend told me that an old schooner that was just bought a while back in Mandeville was sunk in one of the canals in the last couple of weeks. I am looking for confirmation/pictures. The boat's name was Black Jack.
I haven't heard anything about this. Sure hate to hear this if it's true. I will see if I can find out any more info. and if you learn anything else, please post.
This is all just my observations and what I have been told. I do not know all of the facts. The boat was in a marina in Mandeville. Old wooden boat 51 feet long. Looked like it used to be a beauty. I was told the interior was like a museum inside at one time. It was neglected for many years after owner passed away. The son who inherited the boat did not do much with it and it sat in a state of decay. Some guys on the bayou bought it for little of nothing and set to repairing what they could. They built and replaced mizzen and were in the process of fixing it up. I had high hopes for it. Well this past weekend I heard that they tried to take it to New Orleans and got in trouble in the 17th street canal. No motor. The boat got smashed up and sunk. Thats the story anyway. I wished I had taken pictures.
Wasn't the Lake beautiful this weekend. We were enjoying it so much Saturday that we just anchored out in front of Fontainebleau for the night and continued sailing Sunday. Amazing that one can go sixty miles in circles. Which marina are you in?
Yeah, ChuckLast weekend was beautiful, unfortunately I was over in Mobile and not on the boat. Today is raining and blowing. Of course I'm at home now. I live in Eden Isles, and the boat is on a canal, right behind the house. I knew I loved it here, but turns out it is also a pretty good hurricane hole.
