Old Lewmar winch

Just took apart the old Lewmar 16ST, Holdfast series, manufactured between 1978 and 1983. Found the ratchet gear cracked, that explained the reason it suddenly stopped working....can't seem to find a source for a replacement, any ideas? Have emailed Lewmar, still waiting. PY doesn't stock anything this old. Suggestions welcome. Found a whole winch on eBay. Hoping to find just the part.

if the price is right on the ebay winch my advice is get the winch ....there is a fella in the UK that can make you a replacement part but it may cost more than the e bay winch sales@winchspares.com this is the email for the man in england

Have been in touch with winch spares...he wants to sell new winch. The eBay sounds the most promising. I do have a 16 two speed extra, it's not self tailing, but I may put that on...just to raise and lower the genoa on the furled, so we only use it a few times during the season...of course it's nice to have things match, so the eBay is still a viable option. Thanks.

you may find that the gear that is in the non self tailing winch may fit the self tailing one....just take them boath apart and do a comparison of the parts but be carefull not to mix up the parts ....put one set on one side of the bench and the other on the other or take a magic marker and mark the parts of the first one you take apart only ....hope this helps...

That's my thought also. Difference is that the non self tailer is a two speed, but definitely worth a look! Thanks!

Good news, the ratchet gear on the two speed is the same as the one speed. Problem solved.
