old hood 705 furler

[MORNING LIGHT]

I have on my boat a old 705 hood furler consisting in a continuous loop that goes around but that I don't find very reliable since it has the tendency to go all out when tacking . could I change only the barrel of my furler for a more recent one with only one single line or I' m gonna have to change the whole thing .
