Old depth gauge broken and bought new chartplotter 740s

Hello,

Im trying to figure out the best way to fix some problems.

My old depth gauge doesn't work anymore due to water getting into the screen. So I was looking at getting a new Raymarine st60 depth gauge and transducer.

Now I also bought a Garmin 740s chartplotter I want to mount at the helm. I liked the detail that the 740s can get from its transducer. Way better than a regular depth gauge. It has the ability to work as a fish finder its so accurate.

Now do I have to install 2 transducers for this or is there a sneaky way of getting away with only adding one but having it "read" by two different displays?

I like knowing I have a redundant display.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Perhaps I'm missing something but why would you even want two?
If the Garmin is better the just use it for depth.
To answer the question is there is no way you can run both at the same time. The signals are timed pulses and using two at the same time will only result in both being confused.
I don't know of any way to use one transducer for two control heads. Course you don't need two depth meters IMHO.

Here in SW Florida, you can sail all day and not see 10 feet. Redundant depth finders are a must have.

If it's the original data marine depth gage send it in to DMI in Massachusetts and they can rebuild Gage's. Had both knot and depth rebuilt on my H 31 Then install water box for other transducer.

I like knowing that the "default" factory depth gauge is working and have a complete backup with the garmin. I'd also like having the factory depth gauge working and not just a broken gauge next to the speed gauge.

I like the idea of having the factory one rebuilt but I don't know that its possible given the shape of mine.

Thanks for the input though

I did this on my 29.5. I mounted a thru-hull transducer on the opposite side of the keel as the original, next to the paddle wheel speed transducer. Seems to work ok without interference.
