recently purchased an old 1968 Luger windward 21 to restore. found it has three sea cocks, (though hull fittings) and can't see a need for any of them. Help me out please.

I'm sure they were there for something.. sink drain, bilge pump, cockpit scuppers and anchor locker drainage come to mind. If you really don't need them, just plug them up and be done with it :)

Cheers,
Brad

They could also have been used as through hole fittings for a sonar transducer or odometer.
Where are they located?

Thanks, Brad
On this boat there is no sink, doesn't need a bilge pump and shouldn't need anything for anchor locker. Have had quite a few boats but this is the first one with that many outlets. Yes, they must have been there for a reason but can't think of any. Am just going to remove them and glass over the holes.

Nope, none of the above. They have seacocks. Two are located just after the v-births and one is mid way on the starboard side. No drains are needed at these points. Very small cabin so no sink, head or water carrying items.

Just because something isn't there doesn't mean it never was :)

Yours obviously had something there! I can't imagine a PO brain dead enough to poke holes in the hull and install valves just for the fun of it.

As with all used boats, there is no telling what a PO may have done or installed in the past.. and with kit boats, there is even more incentive to 'sway' from the blueprints to suit individual tastes or needs. I wouldn't give them a second thought.. if you can reuse one or more, then do it.. if they serve no purpose, plug-em-up and go sailing

Cheers,
Brad

I didn't post my original thought about this because I felt if was just one of my silly, off-the-wall responses that was of no value. But the more I think about it, the more I think it at least has merit...

Could it be the boat was leaky and the PO installed the drains to actually be drains? Yes, I know they wouldn't work in the water, but on the hard, I can see opening seacocks to let the water out.

There are a couple of Luger sites where someone might know. The most active are the Facebook and the two Yahoo groups. There aren't many of us Luger folks around.

Hey, one never knows what some people might do. This is a very old, poorly built kit boat and who knows how many PO's prior to me. I got it for the challenge and the 7 sails!

You are correct in not many Luger folks around. My hull is #151 so one of the older ones. Not sure if it was the kit or factory variety.
Tried the Luger owners forum and couldn't find any info. Guess the fittings are not hurting anything and if they don't leak will just go with them as they are. too small and area to work in for glassing.

My Morgan had a fixed head, right in the notch of the vee berth when it was new with a seacock to either side under the berth. 1- 3/4" inlet and 1- 1 1/2" discharge. No space for a loop on either and the head was below the waterline. Bad design.

The two forward sounds like a head inlet and pump out. The one on the side sounds like a sink drain. What ever they were, if you have no use, remove the thru-hulls and glass over the penetrations.

I would believe you are correct but there isn't enough room for a head or sink. This boat doesn't have sitting headroom for any one but a child. When I think of a day sailer I think of my Venture 24. This Luger is only a "half day sailer". Ha.
