Old Barrient Whinches

What is the best matcing brand to replace Barrient 18 whinch serving the main sail on H36 1981 in order not to re-drill holes in a cabine top? The pattern of the existing Barrient 18 is 5 asymmetric holes.

Hi, Misha.. Going to be difficult to find a winch with a matching bolt circle .. I am not familiar with that particular winch, but you’ll find newer winches with a symmetrical bolt circle that can be close. One fix is to match as many holes as you can and drill the few that don’t match .. install with a backing plate.. Another fix is to put the new holes half way between the old ones .. Fill the old ones with epoxy. Use a 3/16” (4 or 5 mm) thick aluminum backing plate (about 1.5 times the diameter of the bolt circle) on the inside to spread the load.. Good luck with it !
