Racing means going to windward
I doubt that Hunter hull shapes are optimized for the windward sailing that makes a good racer. But the one h34 we know - a sister model of your 31 - is one of the most weatherly Hunters we have seen. So it might be hard to find one that will point like yours. But boat speed has a lot to do with the selection and cut of your sails, and even more to do with the skill of the skipper. I bet the new hunters do very well with the right sails, especially if you are on the reaching courses that are more typical of cruising.Of course if you are seriously racing, your will have a phrf handicap for your model. And I understand that the current team at Hunter, Henderson and others, have given the new series good lines for speed. We were very happy with the sailing speed of the Hunter 340 we chartered in the North Channel. But we also loved the fractional rig, the furling main, the arch, and the cockpit.DavidLady Lillie
