I am thinking of relocating to either Olcott or Wilson, NY along the souther shore of L Ontaio. I am hoping to find some sailors from these ports to fill me in on the local knowledge.

A couple web sites to try

I have never stayed at Olcott, but have docked at Wilson and Point Breeze. Wilson has a couple yacht clubs and several marinas. All are well protected from the weather and a good spot to begin a trip to Canada. Point Breeze would be further for you, but is a nice quiet place to be. The creek is very well protected from the weather and the yacht club is a nice place to stay. We have also stayed at the county park marina. Try the Links page on my website for yacht club information. There is also a Hunter Owners Association for Lake ontario as well as Catalina and Beneteau. http://www.lakeontariosailing.com http://www.lohsa.com I am in Rochester if you have further questions.

Thanks

I appreciate your response and it was very helpful. Point Breeze does, indeed, look very nice and is not out of the question for me. Wilson looks like it could get a surge in a northerly - and Olcott looks like it might get really bad in those conditions. How big do waves get when northerlies blow 35 or 40? Is the lake reasonabley clean?
