I know, it's a girl thing but where do I find the best "boat" bedding and linens for a Catalina 310? The specs say the forward berth is "queen size". Is that true? What about the aft berth, what size sheets do I buy and who makes the most attractive bedding? Should I go for custom made or just try and find off the rack bedding? All my husband cares about is sailing - he'd sleep on the deck wrapped in a towel if I let him. I have to make sure the boat looks good and is comfortable.

Berth Stuff

You sound like my wife! :) Anyway, there are places that make custom fitted sheets, etc. for the odd sized berths found in boats. They are very expensive (compared with buying a set of King-Size flat sheets & sewing in some elastic to make them "fitted" (at least for the bottom). Also, there are some companies that sell appropriately sized/shaped sleeping bag setups. I've seen these items listed in various boating and Recreational Vehicle ("RV") magazines One item to consider is the venting under the mattress pads. Helps move out the moisture from warm bodies/cold hulls (controls mould/mildew). The Hypervent product was recommended by a few others in this forum some time back. http://www.hyperventmarine.com/product.htm

Don't waste the money

Fitted sheets are WAY expensive! Unless you absolutely don't want to mess with it (I wish I could afford that luxury!!), you can just sew in some elastic yourself. There are a couple ways to do it but the easiest I've seen (and will probably go with myself) is to cut the sheet to the right dimensions and sew on a strap of elastic on each corner so you just flip the strap over the edge of the cushion & you're done. Sewing elastic around each corner might look more like a "regular" sheet but it's more work & who will ever see it but you? I just measured the widest portion of the Vberth, measured a sheet at home & figured out what size. If you're lucky, you could even use two already-elasticized corners of a sheet. LaDonna

Boat Bedding

My Wife, Very clever Idea, went to Walmart got some Nautical looking Blue Bed throw stuff ,its blue and gold has a sun and compass on it. WOW. Looks great in side our Catalina 22, complete with throw pillows, and im sure the right price! I also picked up some big pillows at Walmart with amercan flag covers and keep on boat ,they look real Nautical. ! Just my take on subject. Jack ,Sailing San Diego

Our Boat too.

We have a C310, and I can attest to the fact that the "queen Size" forward berth is not a standard queen size. We struggled with flat sheets all last Summer. This Spring, we are going to bite the bullet and get the so called linen package from Catalina. These sheets are fitted to the odd mattress.

Sheets, Our experience

We went with a local company that does boat interiors. A woman came to our C310 and took careful measurements, then told my wife to go buy some standard sheets and mattress pads in the fabric and colors she liked and bring them to her. They cut them to size and sewed elastic on. My wife thinks the cost was under $100 for both berths (plus the cost of the std bedding). I've heard that you get better quality bedding for the price compared to Catalina's option.

Since the mattress (I'm guessing from the posts

here) seems to be smaller than the standard queen size, why not buy the t-shirt knit sheets in the double size. They should stretch to fit.
