We have a 1976 Hunter 30. We have been looking at it since September, and we don't have a clue. There are two chrome (very corroded Chrome) square (about an inch and a half or maybe two inches)fastened to the hull and on opposite sides of the cabin just aft of the fixed windows, and about a foot up from the deck. On the inside (both sides and directly behind or inside of the chrome pieces) there are two carved Hunter emblems and they are bolted through the roof with four slotted screws. They don't seem to have any function or purpose, Anybody have any ideas other than a decoration?

Too high for vent fittings...

Vents would be in the hull, not above the deck. Besides, there'd be hoses attached to 'em if they were vent fittings. Have you asked Hunter? Can you post a photo?

Okay, what are they?

Nope, not vents Peg, no type of connecton to them inside or outside, plumbing or electrical. I will take a picture!

What are they (Pictures)

Ok, I took three pictures, one of the outside, one of the inside, and one of the port side so you can see the relation to the cabin and cockpit. I am not sure, I can post all three so it may have to be three posts

bimini deck hinge?

bimini hardware - probably chrome-plated zinc, which is not a good choice.

Bimini or dodger mounting hardware my guess too

Is there any kind of a slot in 'em that something might slip into...or something like a clevis pin would go through? It's back-plated, which indicates that something would be attached that has some weight or could put enough stress on the mounting to pull it out otherwise. If the screw heads are on the inside, I'm guessing that the screws (bolts?) would come out to go through whatever would be attached to 'em....nut on the outside. Since there's a Hunter logo on the backplate, it's more likely they were factory installed than owner-added...and on a '70s boats, any original bimini or dodger would have long since bitten the dust. So I'm betting someone at Hunter will know what they are...Call or email 'em with the photos attached. Btw...and fwiw, I continued to find "what the heck is THIS???"..."I'll be damned--look what I found!"--and a fair share of "Uh-oh, this ain't good!" too--throughout the entire 3 years I spent restoring a 70s boat. These are the kinds of things that make restoring an old boat fun! :)

Original I think Rick

They are bolted from the outside in, I havent taken the inside piece off (or the outside) but I am not sure they are bolted throught. There may be a hole in the cneter on the outside, but its so corroded its tuff to tell. They just don't seem to be connected to anything or woul d have anything connected to them.
