I am planning to become a first time boat owner and the f235 is one of my choices. This is not a real expensive purchase so what are the advantages to having marine insurance. Are there different coverages that I would pick and choose? How much is enough for a 10K boat? Thanks for the input Bruce..

Some thoughts about insurance

At a minimum you should consider liability insurance and the higher the limits the better. Too many things can go wrong- a halyard could break loose and hit someone in the eye (I sound like my grandmother), the boom could smack a crew member, your engine could leak oil into the water, etc. You may choose to "self-insure" for your interest in the boat but check the cost of a full policy. It's pretty cheap when you compare it to defending a lawsuit.

Carl couldn't have said it better! It's the liability coverage that really matters. If your guest gets a finger amputated by getting it caught between a winch and a sheet, could you pay for the cost of his bodily injury out of pocket? Al IMIS
