will work with my WP30? I know there are many models out there, but again, I come to this site for opinions. I want one that is not handheld, don't want to deal with replacing batteries all the time. I want one that has a display that can be read at night and day and has a decent size display. Color would be nice, but seems a bit costly right now. Would like the ability of adding chart or map details of spec. areas for close up detail charting. Mostly, I want it to connect and commincate with my WP-30. I want to save myself the trouble of trying the ones that don't work too well. Please include spec. model numbers with responses. Thanks in advance to all.

Try a 176 Garmin

Garmin, make a 176 (get the black and white, color doesn't do well in sun) it can be hard wired and hand held as well, screen is a good size for viewing and uses Blue Chart chips. The 176 is around $499, chips are around $150 and hard wire adapter around $35. The 176 also comes with it's own mount, a really nice unit and will talk with your autopilot. If you really want more Garmin makes a 182 but that runs around $650+. I like Garmin because the chips are at a good price and cover larger area. C-map NT and the others tend to be more money and cover smaller areas, but they are trying to compete and have made changes to their systems. Only Garmin uses Blue Chart.

Garmin 162

I like my Garmin 162 with built in antennae. Second one I have had and it works great for us. B/W, and I have the Mapsource Disks. When I go on a trip in the car I upload my Roads & Recreation Disk. Easy enough to change back and forth as I save all my waypoints etc on my computer. If need be I bring along my lap-top. Pretty universal, accurate and economical too. Easy to install and will interface with WP-30 which I also have.
