Hello all,
I am getting ready for my first oil change in my Yanmar 2gmf as part of the winterizing process. I sail in the midwest, Kansas. What type of oil do you recommend: 10W40 / 20W40 / 10W30 etc.
Thank you,
Andy

Re: Oil

Check with Yanmar but they usually recommend straight 30w.

A premium multigrade Diesel oil is perfect for that engine.. Shell Rotella T 15-40 is available at WalMart .. I think the Chevron multigrade Delo is also.. Going to the synthetic diesel oils is probably overkill, but the Shell Rotella Synthetic 5-40 has some excellent characteristics..

15-40 or

I did use 15-45 but now use synthtic oil.
It's not that much $$$$ for the few times of oil change.

I found that single-weight oil for diesel engines is very scare in the auto parts supply stores. Using the mult-weight has been suggested on this site for years, and works for me.

Which lube oil should I use for my engine and gearbox?
Any well known brand name oil for diesel engines will do, use mineral 15W/40 CF oil. Please remark if you have a turbo engine; make sure the oil is for turbo diesel engines. On gearboxes, it depends on what model you have, Kanzaki, ZF Hurth, Twin Disc, Newage or something else.

To those who believe in synthetic oil you may want to rethink the use of synthetic as the factory specifies "mineral"
