My 272 is powered by an inboard Westerbeke 10two that is no longer made. The oil pan has developed a hole in it and all of the oil escapes in a couple of days. My mechanic took two weeks to diagnose the problem and to find out the part will now take six weeks to get on backorder from a Westerbeke distributor and cost $364. I asked about repairing the old one and was told the metal would be too thin to weld (hole rusted in pan because pan sat in salt water filled bilge because previous owner didn't pump out water that came in through shaft packing nut - I replaced with a dripless packing this winter). Does this price and this "backorder" period seem ridiculus to anyone besides me. Any other creative solutions to repairing a hole in corroded oil pan? In the meantime, I am running the engine and keeping a close eye on the oil pressure and engine temp as now is sail time!

Unless he's removed the oil pan...

...and visually inspected it I find it hard to believe that he can determine that it is too thin to weld. I go back to work on Monday, Frank, I'll give you a call. Cheers, Bob
