Oil in bilge

We recently discovered engine oil in our bilge. Our Yanmar 8hp was down about 1 quart and we topped it up. Other than that, the motor which was just rebuilt runs great. We were wondering if this has happened to anyone else and what is the problem.

How much oil

How much oil are we talking about??? There are several different areas that could cause oil in the bildge. first wipe the engine down around the valve cover and the oil filter, run the engine until it gets warmed up and looke for oil in those to areas, if you have oil around the filter I would suggest changing the filter as the oil filter seal could be damaged and might not reseat properly, if it's around the valve cover then I would try to tighten it up.
